What is electrolysis?

Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal. Using state of the art technology a small amount of electricity is gently applied to the base of the hair follicle (Dermal Papilla). The process destroys the hair growth tissue. Therefore, the regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently eliminated.

Does the treatment hurt?

Discomfort is relative to each individual client. Some areas are more sensitive than others. During your consultation your electrologist will do a test patch of our numbing cream; if there is no adverse reactions we encourage the client to purchase the cream to be applied prior to treatment. If the skin is happy and hydrated there tends to be less discomfort during the treatment.

What causes coarse/terminal hairs?

Any one, or a combination of the following factors:

- Hereditary

- Glandular or hormonal imbalances

- Reactions to certain medications

- Normal aging process

- Stress

- Excessive waxing, tweezing, or other temporary methods of hair removal

Please Note: Once hair changes from the light Vellus hair (peach fuzz) stage to the dark terminal stage, the color and texture will remain in that condition even after the cause of the change has been diagnosed.

How many treatments are needed?

An electrolysis treatment program must be tailored to meet each individual clients needs. Certain factors determine the number and length of treatments required, such as the number of hair follicles contained in the area of treatment, the sensitivity of the skin, the particular area to be treated and previous methods of hair removal. Clients will be given a treatment plan during their consultation; the closer you adhere to your treatment schedule, the more effective your treatment program will be in helping you free yourself of coarse/terminal hair forever.

Is electrolysis a safe and approved method?

Probe type electrolysis is the ONLY safe method of permanent hair removal.

Are all hairs eliminated in one treatment or is regrowth to be expected?

Excessive hair growth, known as Hirsutism can range from fine, Vellus hair to dark, coarse hair on the face and body. Deep, coarse hairs cannot always be eliminated with one treatment; thus breaking down the hair growth cells may require additional treatments.

What is the normal growth cycle of a hair?

Hairs have different cycles of growth, many of which are not visible on the surface of the skin at the same time. The follicle produces the hair from the blood supply and discards it eventually through shedding. The process of growth, rest, and replacement (Anagen, Catagen, Telogen) are known as the hair growth cycle. The sequence of events is repeated constantly until a hair ceases to be formed.

Does electrolysis have any side effects on the skin?

Immediately following treatment, there may be slight redness, which varies with each individual. Your electrologist will provide you with post care instructions and personal attention you need.

Can unwanted hair be removed from anywhere on the body?

Electrologist work on all skin and hair types. It can be applied to most facial and body parts; following your consultation, if there are any contraindications we can discuss alternatives.

Can women begin or have electrolysis treatments during pregnancy?

Unwanted hair can be caused by hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy. Electrolysis can be performed on any normal skin; this includes pregnant women. Before treatment we do require a note from your OBGYN or Midwife saying you can receive electrolysis.

I have blonde, red, or gray hair and was unable to get laser, will electrolysis work for me?
